nick and i had our last full day together in florence yesterday. we got up early and went straight to the uffizi for when it opened. it was really cool, smaller than i expected - but i got to see my favorite painting (bernini's birth of venus) so i was a happy camper :) nick enjoyed the elaborate frames as much as the paintings!
then we booked it over to the academia, which is where michelangelo's david is. that was pretty amazing. it made all the other statues in there look stupid! nothing could fair well in comparison to that!
we went back to the ponte vecchio where i ventured in to some stores and looked at some jewelry...i almost bought a few different things, but i decided against it. we decided to have a grocery store adventure for lunch and bought a huge hunk of fresh ciabatta, some brie, some strawberry jam, some gourmet mustard, provolone and roast beef. nick made a sandwich and i just shoveled brie and bread and jam into my mouth. it was the best lunch ever!
after a little afternoon siesta nap, we headed back out and that's where i did some serious damage. let's just say i bought so much stuff at a past and wine shop, the guy gave me a free bottle of lemoncello. (which i drank some of last night, tastyy!)
we treated ourselves well for dinner and found a little ristorante with a great menu. we got garlic bread and calamari for appetizers, got some wine, and then i got gnocchi and nick got ravioli with shaved truffles. YUM! then we got tiramisu, which i ate most of...it was pretty good, but so strong i got a buzz off it!
I am dying over these amazing food pics! mmmm
