well it rained all morning in rome. our genius idea of doing a hop-on hop-off bus tour was ruined - no need to waste 20euro if you're not even going to get good pictures while you're on the bus! we did end up going to a great van gogh exhibit in the national museum here. it was insane to see so much of his work in one place, and in person! the brush strokes are incredible - our favorite painting was definitely the cypresses one.
after that we walked along a main street and did some shopping. we went into an amazing pasta/oil/candy store and i bought even more pasta! i think i'm all set for like a year. i think the only thing i've bought for myself is pasta. and a pair of gloves, haha. nick hasn't even bought anything for himself yet! but don't worry, we'll set that straight tomorrow.
we went back to the hotel around noon so i could put more appropriate rain footwear on than flip flops. then we headed out and ventured over to the spanish steps. they're so pretty! nick and i were admiring the view from the top and i walked away to get a better view for a picture. i turn around for 10 seconds, literally 10 seconds, and nick has some gypsie talking to him tying some ugly string bracelet around his hand. i just stood there and laughed, and took a picture. the guy apparently tried to charge him 10euro for the friggin piece of red string - and nick gave him 3! i would have taken it off and thrown it back at him. apparently i won't be leaving nick alone again if he wants to have money for gelato!
after we enjoyed the spanish steps we made our way over to the trevi fountain - both of our favorites! we sat there for a while and took some pictures, then walked across the city to the colosseum. nick was pissed that you have to pay to get in, haha. but we did and it was pretty cool. i've been there before, so it was nice to see nick enjoy it so much!
we just got back from dinner (linguine with lobster and nick got big fat spaghetti things with bacon and pepper) and now it's almost time for bed. walking for 6 hours a day will really take it out of you! we're off to the vatican tomorrow. don't worry, i'll keep a closer eye on nick so he doesn't get taken advantage of again. we talked about getting him a leash, so we'll see.
